As both men and women began to wear jeans more and more, Annika Rimala wanted to design a collection of jersey garments that would go well with jeans. For all jeans-wearers, regardless of age, size, or gender. This is how Marimekko's first jersey collection was born. Striped and proclaiming equality.
Symbolizing creativity and courage, Unikko was born at a time when floral designs were not really a part of the Marimekko range. Maija Isola, however, was interested in floral themes and decided to design an entire series of strong, new-style floral prints.
