By taking care of your clothes/jewelry correctly, you will get much more use time for them. When you wear clothing/jewelry for a long time, you save money and natural resources. Maintenance is easier if the garment is made entirely of one natural fiber.
Why is proper care of clothes and jewelry important?
Store correctly
When storing, remember to protect the garment:
- from humidity
- from temperature fluctuations
- from pests such as fur beetles that thrive in basements and attics
Store clothes, for example
- in boxes
- in upper cabinets
- in a suit bag
- for long-term storage in an airtight storage bag in case of pests
- in a resealable plastic bag
General instructions for clothing maintenance
- Before washing, you should try to remove odors by ventilating
- Try to remove dirt stains first with a clothes brush
- If the stain does not come off by brushing, you should try to wash the stains by hand. Remember to rinse thoroughly!
- Remember to always check the product's Washing Instructions on the washcloth
- Finally, the garment can also be steamed to freshen the product, the surface of the sweaters becomes beautifully shiny and the knee bags disappear from the pants
Maintenance instructions by material
Wool maintenance
- Washing woolen clothes and knitwear should be avoided if there is no pressing need.
- First try airing the garment and brushing the stains with a clothes brush.
- If the stains require washing, try washing it by hand first before putting it in the machine. If the stain requires machine washing, wash according to the washing instructions with wool detergent.
- Store the knitwear in an airtight fashion.
Wool fabric
- The maintenance of woolen coats should always start with brushing, because brushing is often enough to clean the material and also remove most of the lint.
Merino wool
- Easy to care for, because the fibers are not the thinnest
- Merino wool products should be washed as little as possible so that the wool's greasiness and antibacterial properties are not affected
Maintenance of silk
- Wash as little as possible. You can avoid unnecessary washing times by using Undershirts and airing the garment.
- Stains should be washed locally and prefer hand washing. The silk can be washed by hand or with the hand wash program of the washing machine.
- As a detergent, you should choose a gentle silk detergent.
- Not all silk qualities can withstand water washing, so you can take them to the laundromat.
- Silk should be stored loosely.
Maintenance of cotton
- Cotton is a very breathable material that can withstand even harsher handling.
- Wash inside out with the same colored laundry with liquid detergent.
- Ventilate, avoiding direct sunlight. The sun easily fades the colors of cotton.
Maintenance of jeans
- Wash little, air often
- Clean small stains with wet wipes or a moistened rag
- According to the washcloth, wash inside out without fabric softener
Flax
Linen is easy to maintain
- Linen products are washed separately from other laundry and dark ones separately from light ones. Only fill the machine halfway.
- Do not use the washing machine's pre-wash program, as it wastes the textile unnecessarily
- Washing temperature usually 60°
- Avoid long spinning and tumble drying.
- Straighten the textiles immediately after washing and hang them to dry on a line
- Remove the stains fresh and, if necessary, use e.g. organic stain soaps
Leather maintenance
- A conditioner is used on a dry leather surface to keep the surface moist. This should be done before detention
- Wax is used to protect the product
- Bags and shoes made of light leather and suede should be protected with a protective spray
- Colored shoe polish keeps the product looking good
Jewelry maintenance
- Beware of exposing the jewelry to moisture (do not sauna or bathe them in the ears, or store them in a humid place)
- Beware of Cosmetics (perfumes and hair sprays), as they damage the plywood and metal parts of the jewelry
- Store jewelry protected from direct sunlight
The colors of the plywood jewelry may look faded, but it may be that they have collected dirt and makeup on their surface.
An easy way to clean is to try an eraser on the first small area. The rubber eraser easily removes dirt accumulated on wooden surfaces.
