According to old Nordic beliefs, the Virgin Mary sowed the forests full of blueberries so that the earth would bear fruit for people to eat. The Nordic blueberry is healthier than its cousin the highbush blueberry, significantly smaller, and dark purple on the inside. You can't eat blueberries in secret; they temporarily stain your tongue, lips, and fingers. As a child, the blueberries collected in a small bucket ended up in mom's pie, and the biggest blue treats, of course, went straight into the mouth in the forest. Can you already taste them?
