Your silver jewelry will stay more beautiful for longer if you put it on last thing in the morning and take it off first thing in the evening.
Silver darkens faster if you use it in the shower, sauna, while doing dishes, or if you expose it to perfumes, chemicals and skin creams, for example. Creams, perfumes and e.g. hair sprays can form a layer on the surface of your jewelry that prevents your jewelry from shining.
If you want to ensure that the beautiful silver surface remains bright for longer, store your silver jewelry in an airtight bag in the dark. This method of storage minimizes the tarnishing of silver, because in an airtight package, the silver sulphide layer that causes tarnishing cannot form so easily on the surface of the jewelry. For example, use small airtight minigrip bags to store your jewelry.
For effective and easy organic art, you only need a deep dish, aluminum foil, coarse sea salt and warm water.
- Line a container with foil and add warm water and sea salt to it.
- Place the silver jewelry on the bottom of the dish. The proportions are not so precise, a thin layer of salt is enough.
- Leave the jewelry in the water for approx. 5-10 minutes, then rinse the jewelry with warm water and dry well.
If the jewelry is heavily tarnished, goldsmith shops sell a stronger silver cleaner that makes the jewelry really shiny. Please note that these substances cannot be used if the jewelry contains natural stones or pearls. Silver cleaning cloths also work well for larger surfaces, but small gaps cannot be cleaned with them.
